Boyle’s Law: how volume and pressure interact.
Robert Boyle discovered that when temperature remains constant, the pressure and volume of a gas have an inverse relationship. If pressure rises, volume shrinks. If pressure falls, volume expands.
As pressure rises in a hyperbaric chamber, the air-filled space in your middle ear shrinks. This creates the familiar feeling of fullness or popping. If pressure rises too quickly, your eardrum can stretch or rupture, which is why pressurization must be gradual and carefully guided.
That same increase in pressure also shrinks harmful nitrogen and other gas bubbles so they can dissolve naturally into your bloodstream. This helps prevent blockages, arterial embolisms, and decompression sickness.
Now Dalton’s Law comes into play.
For most people, HBOT feels relaxing.
You rest inside the chamber and breathe normally while treatment is underway. Many people use the time to read, color, pray, or simply rest.
Most sessions last about 90 minutes, and best outcomes are supported by a series of 40 sessions. Your treatment plan can be adjusted based on your needs and response.
